DAY 1: MONDAY OCTOBER 5
Students preparing the mural panels
DAY 2: TUESDAY OCTOBER 6
The students started the process of image transfer onto the panels using direct sketch and projection methods. We worked on developing a composition from their individual ideas and online visual references based on their research.
Students engaged in the image transfer process
DAY 3: WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 7
The painting process began today. My students were really excited and having fun with paint application techniques and brush control. They were discovering the power of acrylic paint as an opaque medium, therefore neutralizing the fear of some about messing up with paint.
We talked about the three different perspective techniques used to create the Illusion of Depth in a visual composition such as LINEAR, ATMOSPHERIC and OVERLAPPING perspective methods. The process of shaping their visual narrative in vivid colors has just begun.
Here are some pictures from our work experience today. Enjoy!
DAY 4: THURSDAY OCTOBER 8
The painting process progressed today. My students were really having fun with the painting process. There were more conversations about the importance of the emotional and technical properties as we engaged in the creative process of painting. Here is a short video clip about today's activities. Enjoy!
DAY 5: FRIDAY OCTOBER 9
More painting painting activities as the process progressed today. The students were exploring the OVERLAPPING technique while adding more elements to the mural. Adding details to the images for clarity of expression began to take shape. We are surely making progress one day at a time.
Goldsboro High School Mural palette became more vibrant today as the students progressed. Adding more details to the narratives began to reflect dynamic nuances and clarity. Exploration of the OVERLAPPING technique allows the students to be more comfortable and confident about handling acrylic medium. Images of notable individuals in the community history were emerging on the mural. A North Carolina prominent actor, Andy Griffith is one of the famous people featured in the mural. He used to be a teacher at GHS as a young man.
We made more progress today on the mural. My students were actively engaged in the painting process and pretty much excited as additional visual elements evolved. There were more notable figures in the community history coming alive in the narratives. The color palette are getting bolder and stimulating. Just one more day to complete this project and we will be ready for the culminating event on Thursday October 15.
My students added finishing touches to the mural today. Everybody is excited about the unveiling ceremony scheduled for tomorrow in the school Auditorium. It has been a great two week experience working with the students, guiding them through the creative process of making a mural.
